Queue Builder Mode builds upon the capabilities of the Play Queue and SmartPlay features of the BluOS Controller app to enable you to build, edit, play, and save custom queues as playlists dynamically, without interrupting your current flow of music in the play queue.
This article describes Queue Builder Mode and explains how to navigate and use it to combine BluOS or service playlists (which can also be saved as BluOS playlists).
Android/iOS
Enabling and Disabling Queue Builder Mode on the Play Queue
You can enable or disable Queue Builder Mode by tapping the respective button on the Play Queue:
Navigating Queue Builder Mode
Queue Builder Mode appears as a floating menu toward the bottom of the Home tab of the BluOS Controller app:
The Queue Builder Mode floating menu also appears on the Favourites and Search tabs:
You can dismiss the floating menu and continue to use Queue Builder Mode by tapping the DISMISS button. To retrieve the floating menu, disable and then re-enable Queue Builder Mode on the Play Queue. You can also exit Queue Builder Mode by tapping the EXIT button, and re-enable it on the Play Queue.
Using Queue Builder Mode to Merge Playlists
One of the most useful applications of Queue Builder Mode is to build a customized playlist from BluOS or service playlists. For example, to build a playlist called Southern Ontario Bands, you could start with a BluOS playlist of your first such band:
Tap the Play All or Add All button to load and play that playlist in the Play Queue:
You can shuffle and/or repeat the current playlist named under Currently Playing by using those respective icons on the right.
You can also save, edit or clear the current queue using the respective buttons on the Play Queue. Editing the queue enables you to delete and/or rearrange (by dragging) the tracks:
Next, open the playlist of your second band:
With Queue Builder Mode enabled:
- Tapping on any song will add that song to the end of your current Play Queue.
- Tapping the Play All button will replace the current playlist queue (of your first band).
- Tapping Add All will add the playlist of your second band after the playlist of your first band.
- Alternatively, you can tap the Context menu (3 dots) and then tap Add Next to add that playlist right after the current track playing or tap Add Last to add that playlist after the currently queued playlist:
The name of the current playlist is appended with an * when the queue has been altered.
Note also that the SAVE button is highlighted to indicate unsaved changes to the playlist:
Continue adding more bands. When you have enough such bands and their songs in your Play Queue, tap the SAVE button to save your whole queue as a new BluOS (or service) playlist:
Songs from your library and queues with songs from different music services can only be saved as BluOS playlists.
The Overwrite Playlist option will show a list of existing playlists that can be overwritten.
When you load and play your newly created playlist of Southern Ontario Bands, the Play Queue identifies your new playlist clearly:
You can of course continue to build upon your new playlist using Queue Builder Mode.
