If selecting an Album in the local source library or selecting the Play Now option of the Album in the BluOS Controller App shows duplicate tracks, this indicates file duplication.
Also, when BluOS indexes network sources such as a computer or a NAS device, duplicate files on the drive are not removed from indexing. Duplicate references to the same file are also not removed.
Same File but Duplicate reference
It is possible to mount the same files twice when selecting the network share. With Public Sharing enabled, Microsoft Windows shares the folder c:\Users by default as \\Host\Users in the BluOS Controller App.
If you share the folder c:\users\User_name\My Documents\My Music as \\Host\Music consecutively, all files in the My Music directory are shared twice - once in the \\Host\Users share and as a subdirectory in \\Host\Music.
Remove Duplicate Shares
To remove one of the duplicate shares:
Android/iOS - Remove Duplicate Shares
- In the BluOS Controller App, tap the Players tab and select the required Player connected to the network share.
- Tap the Home tab > Settings button.
- Tap Music library > Network shares.
- Select the checkbox of the network shares to be deleted and tap Remove selected shares.
Windows/macOS - Remove Duplicate Shares
- In the BluOS Controller App, click the Player Drawer and select the required Player connected to the network share.
- Under the left Navigation Drawer, select Settings > Music Library > Network shares.
- Select the checkbox of the network shares to be deleted and tap Remove selected shares.
Locating Duplicate Copies of a File
Another possibility of duplication could be due to files shared from two different locations on the shared directory.
To identify and remove the duplicate files, perform the following steps:
Android/iOS - Remove Duplicate Files
- In the BluOS Controller App, tap the Music tab .
- Under the Music Services section, select Library > Albums.
- Tap the context menu (3 dots) of the required album and select Play Now to add the entire album to the Play Queue.
- From the Play Queue, identify the source of the duplicate files using the Technical info option.
- If two identical files have two different sources, remove the redundant file from the NAS or your computer and reindex the music library.
Windows/macOS - Remove Duplicate Files
- In the BluOS Controller App, under the left Navigation Drawer, select Library > Albums.
- Select the context menu (3 dots) of the required album and select Play Now to add the entire album to the Play Queue.
- From the Play Queue, identify the source of the duplicate files using the Technical info option.
- If two identical files have two different sources, remove the redundant file from the NAS or your computer and reindex the music library.
Note
- When sharing complete storage of NAS drives, many drives include their trash/recycle folder as a part of the shared folder by default. Always ensure to clear the sections of the NAS drive that consist of deleted files if they are not intended to be shared.
